Growing with God - Week One {A Link Up!}

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
I struggle with prayer. I struggle with keeping my focus on Him and not on the laundry or the long to-do list of the day. I struggle making the time to sit at His feet and talk to Him, my Jesus. I struggle. And I hate that I struggle with such a vital part of my life. Am I the only one?
I started Growing with God for just a few simple reasons. It's encouraging to share and read about other Jesus follower's walk with God. We were made to be in community with other believers so that we can encourage and build one another up. I also wanted to do this because it's so vital to examine your own heart and life. I didn't realize that I struggled in prayer until I really looked inside and asked God to reveal to me why sometimes I feel disconnected from Him.
But God is faithful. Always. And that's such a beautifully amazing thing.
Prayer keeps us tightly in unity with God throughout the day. Jesus wants us to pray at all times. That sounds like a daunting task but really, it's not. Prayer looks differently at different times of life, even times of the day. I don't struggle with praying in bits and pieces throughout the day, talking to Jesus like He is beside me, but I do struggle with the daily commitment to sit down, stop what I'm doing, and sit in prayer with Him. So I write.
Don’t pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it. A man is powerful on his knees. ~ Corrie Ten Boom
I have been keeping a prayer journal for years now. I can't say that I've written every single day for years now but I started fresh a couple weeks ago. For me, it's the best way to get my thoughts and feelings and praises and emotions and thanksgiving and hurts and petitions out of my mind to Him.
If you struggle with sitting still and focused in prayer, I so encourage you to get your own prayer journal.
Our prayer and God’s mercy are like two buckets in a well; while one ascends, the other descends.  ~ Arthur Hopkins
