The Three P's of a Wholesome Quiet Time

In the mornings, I want to be able to jump right into His Word but lately I just want to jump right back into bed. Do ya feel me?

When mornings or nights or anytime in between like this seem to happen more usual that not, I like to hide in my bedroom/closet/sometimes-anywhere-but-home to sit in quiet with Jesus so that I can totally focus on Him. It's never a bad idea. Oh, how He feeds my hungry soul...

If you are like me in the mornings or even if you just need a little bit more structure to help you better enjoy your quiet time with The Lord, I have a few things that I would like to share with you all that always seem to help me get back on the right track instead of aimlessly reading bits and pieces here and there not fully laying my life down before The Lord.

The Three P's of a Wholesome Quiet Time

---Passion---
Praying for God to give you a desire and a passion for His Word is a beautiful thing to pray for. God wants our honesty and He knows that sometimes we get into a weird funk at times and can't sit still for more than two minutes. Praying for a passion to read His Word always helps me because it reminds me that it's okay to not be on the mountain top every day of my life. I believe God will answer your prayer for passion for His Word because He wants to speak to us and He uses His Living Word to do so! How will we hear from Him in such an intimate way if we don't feel like opening our Bible? Our Father uses His Word to fuel us, direct us, comfort us, teach us, convict us, and guide us.

----Partnership----
Having someone to partner with you or be your accountability partner will help you immensely! Accountability partners can look so diverse. They can be in person, over text, over email, over blogs, through school, work, or through your church. My husband is my accountability partner. I keep him focused and he keeps me focused. I also have girlfriends who keep me accountable to stay in His Word. It may be a good friend, a family member, a church leader, or your husband/wife. They don't even have to be in your town. I am a part of the Peony Project & Firework People. These are two online communities that were created to bring accountability and unity through women with dreams and passions to live a Christ-centered life. We would love to have you
What is an accountability partner? Whoever it is, they are there to encourage you to daily seek Him (and you for them too!) They challenge you to go deeper. If you fall behind, they are there to dust ya off and help you get back on track. They pray for you and with you. They don't do your quiet time for you but they are right there beside you every step of the way. Pray for this person. Pray that God will reveal someone to you to keep you accountable. You don't have to wait for someone to ask you. Ask someone yourself!

----Prayer----
Prayer is vital in our quiet time! Honestly, this is the hardest part of my quiet time. It is much easier for me to read His Word than sit still and focus on praying to Him in an intentional and focused way. But... I don't let that hinder my time with Him because it is oh so worth it. Sometimes you just have to make yourself pray! This is not a bad thing! It's better for you to make yourself pray than not pray at all. God doesn't expect our prayers to be perfect but the more you talk to Him, the less awkward it will be. Some people don't have a problem with this but some do and it is a-okay! It may take a few minutes to clear your mind (pray for clarity and focus beforehand!) but I absolutely love thanking God for all that He has given me. You can start out by praising Him for who He is. That will get you into the groove! Our relationship with God is like any other relationship here on earth. We speak, He speaks. We speak to Him through prayer and He speaks to us through His Word, other people, circumstances and many other different ways. Prayer is powerful. When we pray, He listens!

There is no 5-Step solution to the perfect quiet time but what is time spent with The Lord if we don't spend it on our knees with passion and purpose? Some days we will praise Him through prayer, some days we will need His help desperately and other days we may need to just sit still before Him. Talk with Him. He longs to hear your voice. At the feet of Jesus, we always find rest.
I hope and pray that these three little points can help you focus more on your time spent with God! There is no better place than the presence of God!
If you don't have a set time throughout the day to spend with Jesus, I encourage you to make some time! We are all busy but we can all make time for Him. Pray for the opportunity to do so! Let me know if there is any way I can help!
